Science Europe publishes factsheet on need to increase funding for Horizon Europe - ERA Portal Austria

Science Europe has published a factsheet on the need to increase the overall funding for research and innovation in Europe, stating that an adequate ring-fenced budget should be provided for Horizon Europe, the next EU Research Framework Programme (2021- 2027). In this factsheet, Science Europe illustrates some of the reasons why it advocates such an increased budget, pointing out that in order to address local and global challenges, Europe needs to maintain its capacity to produce and use knowledge through science, research and innovation, but lacks sufficient funding tor these activities. The factsheet points out that EU Member States lag behind in actual R&D spending compared to most other developed countries, and that EU Member States also lag behind with regard to patent applications.
