Central invoicing & Open Access: invisible payments

Summary:

Central invoicing & its influence on Open Access and new Open Access agreements in Sweden: The Swedish library consortium has met agreements with SpringerNature and Oxford University Press: Any fees for Open Accees publishing will be paid centrally by the institution of the corresponding author instead of the authors themselves.  The agreement covers also publications in Springer imprints BioMed Central (BMC), Springer Open Journals, NatureReseach (including Nature Communications and Scientific Reports) and Palgrave Macmillan. The deal with Oxford University Press covers 313 of the publisher’s about 350 journals. Both agreements are active until the end of 2021. Surprisingly, these agreements do not seem to be “read & publish” contracts that focus on an Open Access transformation, such as SpringerNature has met in the UK, for example. Obviously, this is all about central invoicing.
