Summary:

"After a successful first round of funding for 11 non-author fee based open access publishing initiatives who wanted to apply technical improvements to their platforms, OpenAIRE is happy to announce the results of the second call, launched last autumn. This call was mainly focused on supporting initiatives that want to experiment with alternative business models, as OpenAIRE wants to acknowledge the efforts that are being made, within the OA publishing landscape, to develop, pilot, and apply business models other than author fee based ones.by  supporting ongoing and new initiatives that put an effort in investigating or experimenting with sustainable and scalable alternative business models.

The six initiatives that will be funded are the following:

Mattering Press: a consortium of 6 scholar-led open access book publishers will investigate how to transition away from charging book processing charges by developing a single platform for open access books that will experiment with alternative means of funding...."
