Standardization of publishing data with Wikidata | Austrian Transition to Open Access Two (AT2OA²) | Sep 2023

Summary:

"...A central element of AT2OA² is the "Austrian Datahub for Open Access Negotiations and Monitoring", which is designed as an OA monitor. In addition, the datahub is intended to support negotiations of open access agreements, which very soon brought the standardization of publishing data into the focus of the work In this context, it was important to us not only to capture a snapshot, but also to be able to map and compare the development of the publication volume of a particular publisher (topic of imprints). With Wikidata it is possible to display exactly these aspects such as parent-child relationships and link them to a time relationship. In addition, successful examples such as the Wikidata ID and the ability to work completely collaboratively convinced us to implement our project idea with Wikidata. After extremely positive discussions with Wikimedia Austria, Wikimedia Germany and lively exchanges with colleagues at OA Monitor Germany, the first work in Wikidata started in March 2023. During an internal workshop, our data model, among other things, was already documented on the project page. We hope to reach a broad community in this way and motivate them to participate so that we can tackle the challenging task of standardizing publishing data together! https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_Academic_Publisher..."
