TTIC Makes a Hire

Gödel’s Lost Letter and P=NP 2023-07-22

Avrim Blum just announced that Shiry Ginosar has accepted his offer and will be joining TTIC as a tenure-track Assistant Professor starting this Fall 2024. Avrim is the chief academic officer for TTIC.

Shiry works in computer perception, including vision, audio, and other sensory modalities, as well as machine learning and AI more broadly. Her work focuses on artificial social intelligence, including social learning, Human-Human, and Human-AI interaction.

Welcome, Shiry!! Says Avrim.

Shiry Ginosar’s Says:

I completed my Ph.D. in Computer Science at UC Berkeley, under the supervision of Alyosha Efros. Prior to joining the Computer Vision group, I was part of Bjoern Hartmann’s Human-Computer Interaction lab at Berkeley. Earlier in my career, I was a Visiting Scholar at the CS Department of Carnegie Mellon University, with Luis von Ahn and Manuel Blum in the field of Human Computation. Between my academic roles, I spent four years at Endeca as a Senior Software Engineer. In my distant past, I trained fighter pilots in F-4 Phantom flight simulators as a Staff Sergeant in the Israeli Air Force.

Open Problems

We all welcome Shiry to TTIC. As someone who was faculty ages ago at Berkeley I feel some small connection to her; and now I am part-time faculty at TTIC too. Looking forward to seeing her this fall.

I did notice that the after successful autonomous flight tests in December, the US airforce is ramping up its plans to bring artificial intelligence to the US airforce. Could this be something Shiry could play a role in?
