We need to get tough on sickening Twitter abuse

Summary:

Unfortunately, this is the case for me: I definitely have my fair share of online abuse, sometimes on a daily basis.

It usually comes from men and ranges from the incredibly offensive, abusive and misogynistic to downright threatening. Yes, I can choose to block these people. And I can report them to Twitter, which I have sometimes done.

But the last time I did that (about the “burn in hell” tweet, in fact) Twitter’s response was along the lines of: “Sorry you are offended but there’s nothing we can do.” If Twitter decides that a tweet IS offensive, it will disable the account of the user.

But only until the user removes the offending tweet. They are then free to return once again to their trolling.
