Summary:
We’ll hear lightning talks from a range of Sussex collaborators who’ve published dynamic, boundary-shifting, Open Access research in a wonderful variety of formats. Contributors include:
• Tab Betts on 100 Ideas for Active Learning and the forthcoming Teaching and Assessing Online Practical Courses in Higher Education. Tab is a Lecturer in Higher Education Pedagogy at the University of Sussex and a learning technology consultant. He is a co-founder of the Active Learning Network, a global community for revolutionising learning.
• Prof. Catherine Hall on the Open Access textbook Introduction to Biological Psychology. Catherine is Professor of Neurovascular in the School of Psychology and a member of the Sussex Neuroscience Steering Committee, the University Senate. She convenes the core first year module on Psychobiology, and lectures on topics relating to basic neuroscience, neurovascular function and dementia. Her lab is actively involved in community outreach.
Dr Joseph Walton on the Media, Arts and Humanities Sustainability Educator Toolkit . Jo is Research Fellow in Arts, Climate & Tech in the School of Media, Arts and Humanities. He is an arts-based researcher, with particular interest in practice-led research, undertaking interdisciplinary collaboration across the humanities, science and technology. His interests include AI and automation, climate transition, futures and speculative cultures, finance and governance, and games and play.
• Dr. Perpetua Kirby on Creating with uncertainty: Sustainability education resources for a changing world. Perpetua is a Lecturer in Childhood & Youth in the School of Education and Social Work. Her research interests are children and people’s rights, participation and agency, including democratic approaches to education, with a particular focus on sustainability education in both the Global South and North.
• Sue Robbins on Develop your English with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (forthcoming, January 2024). Sue is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Language Studies and Director of Continuing Professional Development in the School of Media, Arts & Humanities. She teaches academic writing, English for Academic Purposes (EAP), and English for Specific Purposes (ESP/Business English), as well as teaching initial and in-service teacher development courses for home and international teachers in higher education institutions
