The Global Summit on Diamond Open Access 2023, organized by Redalyc, UAEMéx, AmeliCA, UNESCO, CLACSO, UÓR, ANR, cOAlition S, OPERAS, and Science Europe, was held in Toluca, Mexico from October 23-27.
This multilingual and diverse event welcomed around 700 participants from 75 countries, including editors, universities, research organizations, funders, and policymakers. These participants are involved in developing and enhancing the Diamond Open Access ecosystem, as part of a joint reflection in favor of non-commercial publishing models.
As an organization that advocates for and encourages Open Access, community-driven approaches, and develops platforms that support open publishing processes, the Public Knowledge Project was notably present during the five days of the summit.
In addition, PKP and OJS were mentioned on numerous occasions in the different panels, recognizing PKP Software as one of the most widely used open infrastructures by the community.
In the framework of the 2nd Diamond Open Access Conference, held during the summit, Dr. Juan Pablo Alperin, Co-Scientific Director of PKP, participated in a panel discussion on the governance and financing of a global diamond open access infrastructure, and the challenges of the possible creation of a global federation for Diamond OA. Tanja Niemann, Executive Director of one of PKP’s closest partners, Érudit, also participated, highlighting the importance of national infrastructure projects.
