Summary:

Timeline:

We will work with the translator to set a specific timeline, including a draft schedule. Ideally, we hope to complete this project by December 2024, though there’s flexibility in our timeline. We’re hoping to begin the project as soon as possible.

Tools:

We will consult with the translator about which tools to use, how much comparison between tools is feasible or advisable, and how much of the final translation may reflect language generated through these tools. Possible software may involve ChatGPT, Google Translate, DeepL, Bing or Phrase.

Publication:

All Cita books and associated materials are published under a Creative Commons ShareAlike license and can be read, shared, and used with attribution for free by anyone with an internet connection. The translator will maintain the copyright and be credited on the cover, and elsewhere. Cita’s editorial team will provide guidance and feedback when needed. Cita will assign an ISBN to this publication and it will also be integrated into DPLA’s Palace Bookshelf and in other digital library catalogs.

Compensation:

$6,000, with 30% to be paid upon the start of the project and the remainder to be paid upon completion of the work. Compensation will be administered through Cita’s fiscal sponsor, Educopia Institute

Deliverables:

1) A literary translation (ENG-SPA or SPA-ENG) of 25.000-40.000 words of a book to be selected with Cita staff and to be published in 2025. The translator’s name will be on the book’s cover.

2) A short essay (around 1500-2000 words) on the state of machine translation for literary pieces.

To Apply:

Send a CV and a brief letter explaining your qualifications and interest to info@citapress.org. Deadline: March 1, 2024. We will review applications on a rolling basis.
