“TRIPLE: Behind the Scenes” series #11 Lottie Provost

In the series “TRIPLE: Behind the Scenes”, we feature individual staff members from the TRIPLE project team to give a face to the people behind the scenes. What is their role in the project, their background, and how did they get in touch with the Open Science movement?

Today, we introduce you to Lottie Provost (check out her LinkedIn and Twitter accounts). Lottie works at the Institute for Computational Linguistics at the National Research Council of Italy (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche – CNR), the largest public research institution in Italy and the only one under the Research Ministry performing multidisciplinary activities.

Lottie, what is your role in the TRIPLE project, and what are you currently working on in the project? 

In TRIPLE I am co-leader of Work Package 6 “Open Science and EOSC Integration” in which I am mostly involved in the organisation of online training on Open Science and the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) for the SSH research community. Part of my work also includes research on how to support the uptake of the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) within training activities to tackle the frequent findability and reusability issues related to the management of digital training materials. 

Within this work package, we have produced the TRIPLE Open Science Training Series, a series of 12 training events on Open Science and the EOSC, and the TRIPLE Training Toolkit, a reproducible workflow with guidelines and templates for trainers to design and deliver training that is FAIR by design. 

What is your background in terms of previous work experience and academic discipline, and which specific perspective(s) does that background contribute to TRIPLE?

I have a degree in Languages, Literatures and Regional Civilisations and a Master’s degree in International Project Management, both from the Université Sorbonne-Nouvelle Paris 3, in France. I worked for SlimPYX, a french startup in Paris, for two years in which I was in charge of marketing activities and the commercial development of the brand before moving to Italy where I now work as a research assistant at the institute “Antonio Zampolli” of the CNR (CNR-ILC) Pisa where I study training practices and open workflows as part of the TRIPLE project. 

What are the aspects you’re most excited about for the release of the GoTriple platform?

I am a big fan of the GoTriple data visualisation services which enable you to discover certain research outputs I would have never come across if it were not for these tools. Specifically, the knowledge map is great for visually exploring research topics and provides an original overview of a concept with related areas of research. The streamgraph is really useful for analysing trends over time and discovering relevant related documents. 

What is the one thing that you desperately need in your daily work routine? 

I need my morning espresso and food within reach. I tend to get grumpy if I am hungry (and I do get hungry quite often during the day!) so I always carry various kinds of snacks along with me in the office.

Can you tell us about an activity that helps you release stress after a hard week at work?

I grew up with many animals at home in Brittany, France so I enjoy being outside a lot. Any activity related to nature, animals, walking in the woods or in the mountains makes me feel happy. My favourite activity besides horse riding is finding porcini mushrooms and I feel very lucky to live in Tuscany where the porcini season lasts from June to the beginning of November!
