In conversations around the recently updated public-access guidance from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), we’ve heard members of our community—including librarians, researchers, and administrators—raise questions about the copyright implications of the new memorandum. The FAQs clarify that the August 2022 OSTP guidance, “Ensuring Free, Immediate, and Equitable Access to Federally Funded Research” (also referred to as the Nelson memo), has no implications for copyright.
