Summary:

The Japan Consortium for Open Access Repositories (JPCOAR) released the results of its 2024 survey on the actual usage of institutional repositories among JPCOAR participating institutions (mainly universities). The survey was conducted for considering relevant measures to respond to the new national Open Access policy that will require immediate open access to publications and supporting data from 2025.

For example, the survey revealed a notably low adoption of institutional repositories for sharing research data associated with publications. Only 8.7% of respondents reported registering research data in these repositories. Furthermore, a significant majority (87.2%) indicated that institutional repositories were not included in Data Management Plans (DMPs).
