(Objective)

1. Tokyo University of Science (hereinafter referred to as "the University") has established the following open access policy for the purpose of contributing to the further development of academic research by making the results of its research widely available to both inside and outside the university, returning the results to society, and contributing to the sustainable development of the local and international communities.

(Publication of research results)

1. The University will make available to the public research results (hereinafter referred to as "research results") published by its faculty members in academic journals issued by publishers, academic societies, internal departments, etc., through the Tokyo University of Science Academic Repository (hereinafter referred to as "Repository") or a method selected by the faculty member. However, the copyright of the research results will not be transferred to the University.

(Exceptions to application)

1. Regarding the publication of research results, if a faculty member or the University determines that publishing them through a repository is inappropriate for copyright or other reasons, the research results will not be published.

(Non-retroactive application)

1. This policy does not apply to research results published before the implementation of this policy, or to research results for which a contract in conflict with this policy was concluded before the implementation of this policy.

(Deposit in the repository)

1. Faculty members will submit research results that can be made public to the University as soon as possible, unless there are special circumstances. Matters related to the repository, such as registration and publication, will be handled in accordance with the Tokyo University of Science Academic Repository Operation Guidelines.

1. The University will continually review whether its open access policy is functioning effectively in accordance with its purpose.
