Summary:

On October 17, 2024, Editage announced the results of a survey on 1,012 Japanese researchers' attitudes towards immediate Open Access made mandatory under the the Cabinet Office’s 2024 'Basic Policy for Realising Immediate Open Access to Academic Papers, etc.' The survey revealed that 71% of researchers were unaware of the policy of making immediate Open Access mandatory, only 35% supported the policy (the most common reason for not supporting it was concerns about the burden of OA publishing fees), and only 51% indicated the willingness to actively promote Open Access in the future.
