YouGov Survey

Summary:

"As Chair of the government's Data Strategy Board, advising ministers in the departments of Business, Innovation and Skills and the Cabinet Office, and as author of a Review commissioned by the government into public sector information* (about how we should maximise the value of open data), I am asking you to complete this survey in which I am hoping to benefit from your experience and ideas. Public Sector Information is information held by government owned bodies, which may be released as open data – and open data is datasets that can be freely used, reused and redistributed by anyone – typically to create new value (pro-social value, commercial value, or both). This survey is open to all those who wish to participate, including those who do not see themselves as extensive data users. For most of the following questions, there is a comment box to allow more detailed responses. Why so many comment boxes? Because this is not a 'poll' that simply tries to put all questions in a perfectly balanced way; it is a survey seeking your help in improving my proposal for policy. Some of the questions imply certain preferred positions - I am therefore keen to receive from you either challenging or supporting ideas and experiences. It is a highly imperfect survey - there will be confusion about the meaning of words like 'data', 'information', 'public', 'open', 'sharing', and so forth. I welcome your corrections and additions. Feel free to write a lot - or nothing at all. By the way, nothing in this survey represents the views of the government or the Data Strategy Board. Thanks for taking part!"
