Open Access: Academic libraries constrained by budgets

"Librarians, specifically those working in academic institutions, have watched with interest the development of this type of publication. The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), reference directory for scientific publications in Open Access, lists nearly 10,000 academic journals.   The arrangements for publication, within the Open Access, are varied: some items are published only in this way, others are peer-reviewed, and some are published simultaneously in a traditional journal managed by a commercial publisher. The integration in the collections of an academic library, or resource center, depends on these conditions: rights management and access will be different depending on them.   In summary, 6 points appear crucial in the management of resources in Open Access: [1] Technical problems [2] Qualitative Screening publications Open Access [3] Indexing of publications in Open Access [4] Management of Open Access models economically [5] Long-term preservation of collections [6] Promotion Resources Open Access The role of librarians in the integration of collections in Open Access, appears more important than ever in the field of open access and the rapid publication journals in Open Access does not always carry out a careful selection. In 2013, the journalist in science and biology John Bohannon had conducted an experiment finding that 157 scientific journals not selected the articles. If the percentage is low, the risk exists.   Some criteria to make examinations have been published, but the critical eye remains vital to a qualitative selection. And time librarians in universities or in the archives, is not scalable ..."
