DuraSpace Launches 2012 Community Sponsorship Program | DuraSpace

“Today the DuraSpace organization announced the launch of the 2012 Sponsorship Program encouraging users of DSpace, Fedora and DuraCloud open source technologies for digital preservation and access to invest in radical collaboration by becoming DuraSpace sponsors. This software is available free of charge and DuraSpace does not receive significant funding from government agencies or private foundations. Instead DuraSpace relies on financial support from those organizations who directly benefit by using its open source software. ‘The challenge of preserving academic content is too great for any one institution to tackle alone’, says Karin Wittenborg, University Librarian, University of Virginia. ‘DuraSpace fosters collaborative activities and open-source solutions to ensure that knowledge will be accessible to future generations.’ DuraSpace Community Sponsorship information: http://duraspace.org/sponsors ... Research data and the scholarly record continue to grow while libraries remain uniquely positioned to take advantage of open access, open source and open data systems that address burgeoning data and access for future generations. DuraSpace, an independent 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, is a catalyst in this effort by supporting the development of DSpace (http://DSpace.org/) and Fedora (http://Fedora-commons.org/) open source software for digital repositories, and DuraCloud (http://DuraCloud.org/), a hosted service and open technology for managing content in the cloud. The combined benefits of strategic leadership, innovative solutions, community outreach and advocacy on behalf of DuraSpace communities have resulted in ongoing development and deployment of open technologies for durable, persistent access to digital data.
