Design/methodology/approach - This study is based on both primary and secondary source of data. For studying awareness of open access publishing, survey was conducted among the researchers of IITs and IIMs. by using close ended questionnaire. Findings - know day by day popularity of open access in India. Many projects in progress with the support of government as well as private agencies. Authors are now publishing their papers in open access journal, institutional repositories and self archives. Originality/value - Open access has become new era of research, for that India is ranked as 7th in the world after Brazil in terms of number of institutional repositories. It would be great help of all researcher and scientist to contribute their work in open environment without any hesitation and barrier."
