Summary:

[From Google's English] "There is an exodus of medical editors and editors in Frontiers , a rapidly growing Swiss publisher of open access journals. The exodus followed a conflict with the management of the editorial process, which according to some editors at many points in conflict with applicable guidelines for medical journals. 'The quality of published research is not guaranteed, and at the expense of patients,' says Matthias Barton, professor of cardiology at the University of Zurich. He was June last year, the editor of the journal Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine , but has since withdrawn. 'The publisher is only there to make money quickly.' Open access is a recent online publication model for scientific research, which competes with the traditional subscription model. Researchers pay a publisher prior to publishing, and after publishing an article is free for everyone on the Internet. In protest Barton wrote in late March a manifesto, along with immunologist Kendall Smith of Cornell University and Jos van der Meer, professor of internal medicine at the Radboud University Medical Centre. Van der Meer was until recently editor of Frontiers in Medicine . They enumerate the abuses at the publisher. For example, scientists who choose to submit an article itself by which the editor is assessed. 'This works nepotism in hand,' says Van der Meer. Barton cites the example of a submitted article that contained no statistical basis. He wanted to refuse, but under pressure from the publisher it became accepted. Frontiers was founded in 2007 with the idea that the power lies not with one person but is spread throughout the newsroom."
