[From Google's English] "The international press as well as ORF Science recently reported the threats of boycotts of Dutch universities against the academic publisher Elsevier. The Netherlands are committed to open access to scientific publications (Open Access) an, Elsevier, the biggest scientific publisher in the world, wants to but implemented only against very high additional costs. Austria is one of the Netherlands, the UK and the Max Planck Society for the countries that have entered the first open-access agreements worldwide. Together with the library consortium KEMÖ the Austrian Science Fund FWF had already agreed an initial agreement with the publisher IoP Publishing early 2014, another followed in February with Taylor & Franics. Negotiations with other publishers, including the University Conference (uniko) are ongoing. With Elsevier exist to date still old contracts. Unfortunately, Elsevier has not been willing to negotiate with Austria on Open Access. Therefore, the experience of the Netherlands for Austria will be very useful for contract extensions. So far, the FWF speaks no preferences for certain publishers or publication organs. However, it should be noted that scientists as authors, editors and reviewers should also pay attention to the cost and open access options of publication organ. The FWF supports the efforts of the Netherlands, the UK and the Max Planck Society, the scientific as soon as possible to switch publication system at no additional cost on Open Access (see the FWF statements of December 2014 and April 2015) and maintains with these countries a very narrow experience. Finally, under the umbrella of the Open Access Network Austria (OANA), the almost belonging to 50 institutions, working in a research group at a specific open-access strategy for Austria. This strategy will be both the basis for closer national and international cooperation as well as for more serious negotiations with publishers ..."
