Karger Publishers Expands Open Access and Licensing Options for All Disciplines in Biomedical Science

"With market demand increasing for Open Access in scientific and medical publishing, the Switzerland-based, international biomedical publisher is now offering more flexibility with Creative Commons licenses for Open Access work. In addition, Karger plans to introduce a searchable web platform in the summer of 2013 to make it easier for readers to discover content in Karger's growing collection of Open Access articles. With 17 Open Access journals http://www.karger.com/Journal and more in planning, as well as the Author's Choice option (www.karger.com/Services/AuthorsChoice) to make any paper Open Access in Karger's subscription journals, Karger provides an Open Access option for every discipline in biomedical science. Among the important benefits of Karger's robust Open Access offering is that it allows all authors to meet the archiving or Open Access requirements of their institutions or virtually any organization that funds their work. Such funders include the US National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Wellcome Trust or Research Councils UK and a host of other funders internationally. Karger is ranked as a 'green' publisher, the top rating, by SHERPA/RoMEO, an organization that tracks publishers' copyright and self-archiving policies. To help authors fulfill these obligations, Karger Open Access articles are now licensed according to the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 3.0 Unported license (CC BY-NC), so that Karger can seek to protect an author's work from misuse. However, Karger also supports the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported license (CC BY) whenever a funder requires it.
