Summary:

[Forwarded from the SPARC OA FORUM] “On behalf of Japan's repository community, I am proud to report that the number of full text items on institutional repositories in Japan exceeded one million on the first of June, 2012. That is to say, more than a million Open Access articles/documents are available on line from Japan now. That fact was capture by JAIRO, a service provided by the National Institute of Informatics(NII), which harvest all the metadata of the content on the Japanese institutional repositories. In terms of the number of metadata, the fifteenth of September, 2011, was a milestone date when it exceeded a million, but in terms of real content, this month is more significant. Visit the following URL of the English page that also shows the kinds of content, the number of repositories and other relevant figures. http://jairo.nii.ac.jp/en/”
