Taiwan forms alliance to advocate open data usage - The China Post

"An alliance was established Saturday in Taiwan to promote open data — the idea that certain data should be freely available to everyone to use and republished as they wish. The alliance, which consists of 207 individuals, groups and institutes in the public, private and academic sectors, is expected to expand in the future, said Peng Chi-ming, the alliance's chairman. The alliance will serve as a platform to communicate with the government, make more government data available to the public and develop the nation's knowledge economy, Peng said. In addition to developing industrial cooperation, the alliance will collect opinions and exchange experience with its international counterparts, he added. The government has been promoting open data since early 2013, allowing the public to obtain information such as weather reports, land and housing prices and food traceability systems. Minister without Portfolio Simon Chang said at the launch ceremony that he aims to make more government information available by the end of the year."
