"On March 29, 2012, the Obama Administration announced a new initiative focused on R&D in data science and engineering. At that time, six Federal departments and agencies made commitments that promise to greatly improve and develop the tools, techniques, and human capital needed to move from Data to Knowledge to Action! As we enter the second year of the Initiative, the Administration is encouraging multiple stakeholders to develop and participate in innovative partnerships designed to advance core Big Data technologies; harness the power of Big Data to advance national goals such as economic growth, education, health, and clean energy; use competitions and challenges; and foster regional innovation. The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and the Networking and Information Technology R&D (NITRD) program will host an event, Data to Knowledge to Action: Building New Partnerships highlighting high-impact collaborations and identifying areas for expanded collaboration between the public and private sectors.
