This three-year initiative was funded by a grant from the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE). The project builds on efforts in Florida and across the U.S. to create a sustainable open textbook model and a collaborative community to further implementation of open textbooks.  Generally, open textbooks allow users to: [1] use the textbook without compensating the author [2] copy the textbook, with appropriate credit to the author [3] distribute the textbook non-commercially.  Some open textbook licenses provide even more freedom, while others allow users to read them online for free but have restrictions on modifying, printing, or distributing.”
