Summary:

DPLA Midwest—taking place on October 11-12, 2012 in Chicago—is the third major public event bringing together librarians, technologists, creators, students, government leaders, and others interested in building a Digital Public Library of America. Convened by the DPLA Secretariat at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society and co-hosted by the Chicago Public Library, the event will assemble a wide range of stakeholders in a broad, open forum to facilitate innovation, collaboration, and connections across the DPLA effort.  On October 11, the six DPLA Workstreams and the Steering Committee, along with members of the public, will meet in a series of breakout sessions and working groups to discuss the development of both the DPLA platform and the front end user interface, the establishment of the DPLA as an independent non-profit organization, and the launch of the DPLA’s Digital Hubs Pilot Project. On October 12, DPLA Midwest will introduce the new DPLA Board of Directors, showcase the first steps toward the development of the online DPLA prototype, feature comments from participants in the Digital Hubs Pilot Project, and continue to provide opportunities for public participation in the work of the DPLA.  Both the October 11 discussions and DPLA Midwest on October 12 are free and open to the public.  Registration is required for both events; those who wish to participate in one or both days are welcome.”
