Summary:

Tufts OpenCourseWare (OCW), http://ocw.tufts.edu, is a free, online publication of high-quality educational material contributed by Tufts faculty from a number of Tufts University courses. Started in 2005, the OCW website has received almost 3.5 million visits and reflects Tufts' early advocacy of the open educational resources (OER) and open access (OA) movements.  What are the Open Access and Open Educational Resources movements? ‘Open access (OA) literature [research] is digital, online, free of charge, and free of most copyright and licensing restrictions. OA benefits literally everyone, for the same reasons that research itself benefits literally everyone. OA performs this service by facilitating research and making the results more widely available and useful.’ Source: Open Access by Peter Suber (MIT Press 2012). http://bit.ly/oa-book ... ‘Open Educational Resources (OER) have core attributes that access to open content is provided free of charge. for teachers, students and lifelong learners and that the content is liberally licensed for reuse in educational activities, favorably free from restrictions to modify, combine and repurpose content.’ Source: OLCOS Roadmap 2012. http://www.olcos.org/english/roadmap/  How can I get involved? Email  ocweditor@tufts.edu to join hundreds of Tufts faculty by sharing your course material online. The Tufts OCW editor will work with you to help format your content for public consumption under a Creative Commons license that maintains faculty copyright while fostering reuse. We will make every effort to work around your busy schedule.  Tufts OCW is a charter and sustaining member of the international OpenCourseWare Consortium and Associate Provost Mary Lee is a board member. Tufts' commitment to Tufts OCW reflects its institutional mission and values, including Tufts' mission for global active citizenship. Such an effort resonates deeply with faculty who have a passion for teaching and who have dedicated their lives to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge. We hope you will agree to add your course.”
