"Gordon Mitchell at the University of Pittsburgh recently delivered a fascinating presentation about the University of Pittsburgh's efforts with regard to open access publishing and tracking publication impact. As editor of Enculturation (an open access journal), I'm often asked how we measure the 'impact' of the journal. Right now, we really only measure that by acceptance rate (15%) and by the number of unique views that particular articles get. Mitchell's talk and Pitt's recent experiments provide some new ways of thinking about these issues. Here's a link to a video of the talk, and I've also embedded Mitchell's Prezi below."
