Summary:

During Open Access Week, October 22 -25, 2012, the UIC Library celebrates the advancement of knowledge through free, immediate, online access to scholarship.  'Free for All or Free-for-All?  Digital Publishing and Open Access' Jennifer Howard, Chronicle of Higher Education journalist, presents on Tuesday, October 23, 3:30 pm, in Room 1-470, Daley Library.  Howard addresses how born-digital content affects publishers’ and scholars’ control over published research. She will also discuss how alternative forms of scholarship appearing in the digital world affect scholarship in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences.  She will cover issues such as the threats to your intellectual property in the digital world and the impacts of digital scholarship and open access on promotion and tenure. Following Howard’s presentation, a reception will honor UIC authors who have published in open access media. Other Open Access Week activities: [1] Drop in at one of the H-index clinics to get a measurement of the impact of your published works and to get a treat. [2] Learn more about increasing your impact and retaining your rights in two online workshops:  [a] Increasing your Impact and Retaining Your Rights ...
