Summary:

"Last month SAGE Open, our flagship open access journal spanning humanities, social, and behavioural sciences, reached a major and significant milestone – we published our 500th paper. Bearing in mind that the journal only published its first paper in April 2011, this is no mean feat. Considering that it has taken time for open access (OA) to become established in the social and behavioural sciences, it is even more of an accomplishment. Coinciding with this achievement, around the same time I was invited to the Association of American Publishers Professional & Scholarly Publishing Division’s Annual Conference to be a part of a plenary panel on what publishers have learned implementing OA programs, which I have summarized below ..."
