Open Research in 2013 - Looking forward

Summary:

"It has been quite a year since the figshare site went live last January. Perhaps the most rewarding statistic is that hundreds of thousands of research output files that would have otherwise gone unpublished are openly available to all on figshare. We were also very proud to be included in the Royal Society’s report on Science as an Open Enterprise. Whilst improving the main functionality and usability of the site, we have also expanded our scope ... In addition to some smaller features such as badges, reserve DOI functionality and the visualisation of many new file types, we also have released some significant enhancements to the figshare platform including the figshare API and the recently released Desktop Uploader. You can read more about these advances on the tools page. We have also worked with some great people on different projects in the academic, open source and publishing world ... Our focus towards the end of the year was on forging stronger collaborations with publishers and we’ll be announcing some exciting news with regards to this in the new year.  We know that 2013 is going to be an even bigger year. As the figshare team grows, the developments will be coming faster and faster. With the figshare API and the recently released Desktop Uploader, we have been concentrating on keeping everything very simple and allowing users to get their data into their figshare private account. From here, it just takes seconds to make any research outputs you have citable with a DOI.  We have been listening to the wishes of our users and will be acting accordingly with our roadmap going forward. [1] Collaborative Spaces (both public and private) [2] Enhanced Metrics [3] Embed functionality [4] Increased integration with ORCID [5] Ability to push to other repositories [6] Ability to download files in different formats ... We’d love to hear more of your feedback ..."
