Summary:

"SPARC Europe is pleased to announce that it will coordinate a new initiative with the Université de Lorraine. The Open Science Monitoring Initiative (OSMI) strives to provide a common, global framework for monitoring Open Science. OSMI has been initiated with Charité, the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, Inria, PLOS and UNESCO.

OSMI’s Coordination Committee is composed of Vanessa and Andrea from SPARC Europe and Laetitia Bracco, head of the research data and bibliometrics support services at the Université de Lorraine. Our committee’s objective is to provide the necessary support to a range of policymaking stakeholders when running this emerging initiative, and to make sure that policy turns into action. In the coming months, we will explore how best to govern OSMI with the core group of OSMI initiators, including how to operationalise the Principles via working groups.

The mission to develop a single framework for monitoring Open Science responds to the 2020 Principles of Open Scholarly Infrastructure and the 2021 UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science. OSMI also aligns with the PathOS Open Science Indicator Handbook and the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information...."
