"Academic publisher Taylor & Francis has launched a new trial option to accelerate open access publishing.
Subscribe 2 Open will invite subscribers of the publisher’s three journals participating in the scheme to renew their packages by March next year. Taylor & Francis said that “if enough institutions support S20 in this way, all articles published in the 2025 volume will be open access” in participating journals.
The trial is seen as the first time a major publisher has tested this model.
Taylor & Francis said the trial introduces an “additional equitable route for making trusted knowledge available to all”. This is because under the S2O funding model all open access publishing costs will be covered by the subscribers—meaning the authors will not have to pay to publish...."
