We have made significant strides since the BOAI to cultivate systems of sharing knowledge that are open by default and equitable by design. Open research policies are becoming the norm for research funders, and governments are making significant investments in open educational resources. Higher education leaders are actively grappling with changes to incentives structures to better align with open scholarship. There is growing momentum behind models for open access publications, such as Diamond and Subscribe to Open, that center the needs of the academic community and avoid barriers to both authors and readers...."
