Declaration To Defend Research Against Government Censorship - Google Docs

"This Declaration is a call to action for the scholarly communication community and additional stakeholders to condemn and resist recent and ongoing acts by the U.S. government to censor scholarly research. 

In response to the alarming curtailing of academic freedom of speech and inquiry, this Declaration outlines 1) the threats such censorship poses to the global  and the broader global community it serves, and 2) the possible avenues of resistance to preserve the scientific record and academic freedom for all researchers globally. ...

We call on members of the worldwide scholarly communication ecosystems – researchers, policy-makers, scholarly societies, libraries, higher education and research institutions, publishers, funders, and others – to sign this Declaration to publicly condemn and resist the censorship of academic research.  Please sign in your own name and/or on behalf of your organization. By signing, you commit to acting on at least one of these four recommendations:

1. Support instances of resistance to U.S. government censorship.

2. Promote venues for scholars to share, safeguard, and preserve their work, beyond the reach of censorship.

3. Participate in efforts to track and record instances of U.S. government censorship.

4. Share this Declaration broadly and encourage individuals and organizations in your communities to sign and support it...."
