Summary:

Abstract: Libraries have changed during the 20th century, moving from  being  entirely  physical  to  combining  virtual  and  real places.  Through  the  integration  of  library  knowledge  into research,  teaching,  learning,  and  service  tasks,  libraries  are becoming  an  increasingly  integral  part  of  the  community. Librarians  may  be  more  concerned  with  IR  advocacy  and promotion,  staff  and  user  training  and  assistance,  technical support  expenses,  metadata  generation  and  they  are  more concerned  with  maintenance  and  long-term  data preservation than  with  IRs.  This  article  discusses  the  obligations  and challenges  librarians  encounter  while  administering institutional repositories (IRs).
