Summary:
From Google's English: The theses I present below and offer for further discussion are formulated from the perspective of a publications services employee at an academic library and as part of the open access community in German-speaking countries. 10 By "we," I mean people who also work in academic librarianship and/or who consider themselves part of the open access community. I express my personal opinion here, which does not necessarily reflect the opinion of the institution where I work. My theses are:
- We do not formulate our goals precisely enough.
- As a result, we fail to recognize that not every action in the name of open access is desirable. We fail to always distinguish between ends and means. We don't primarily guide our actions by the results we want to achieve through open access.
- We don't just provide neutral and general support to "researchers." Our decisions have a steering effect, which is why we actively shape the science system.
