EHMHGoes Open Access

Summary:
"The future of scientific publishing lies in open access. While this goal is widely shared among funding bodies and is highly desirable for equitable access to research, it is uncertain when and how exactly this transformation will proceed and how it will be financed. Each journal must answer these questions for itself.
The European Association for the History of Medicine and Health and the Swiss Society for the History of Medicine and Science, as the publishers of ehmh, have decided that the time has come for them to take this step. With the 2021 relaunch of the journal Gesnerus – originally founded in 1943 – as a European journal with a new name and new editors, all former articles were made available in open access.
EHMH [European Journal for the History of Medicine and Health] has now been operating successfully for four years, enabling us to take the plunge and make all previous and future contributions freely available without any charges for authors and readers. This is only possible thanks to the continuous support of the Swiss Academy of Sciences, the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Guggenheim Schnurr Foundation, and a small but growing number of libraries."
