Summary:

Abstract:  This article presents findings from a Spring 2025 survey examining how U.S. institutional repositories (IRs) are responding to artificial intelligence (AI). The study received 116 responses (lowest item-level n = 89) from IR-affiliated professionals, finding few had implemented policy or technical measures to regulate AI. A majority had not adopted AI tools for IR workflows while 42% had experienced workload increases due to AI. Many indicated that they expect AI to distort engagement metrics over the next 2 years while also boosting downloads and traffic. These insights may inform strategic planning as repositories navigate new challenges in an AI-mediated environment.
