Summary:
From Google's English: "It couldn't be any clearer! Canada’s three major national funding agencies have just issued a statement to their reviewers reminding them that a journal’s prestige and its impact factor must under no circumstances be used to evaluate the quality of research.
Using them as an indicator of quality can:
- disadvantage emerging or interdisciplinary research;
- falsely assume that prestige reflects the quality and impact of research results;
- open the door to bias in evaluations and lead to misleading conclusions.
Even Clarivate—the company that produces them every year—advises against using them to evaluate individual articles or researchers. What more do you need?!"
