"Research data is a valuable asset for scientific knowledge. Their preservation and retention, combined with the least open access possible, are increasingly a central concern of universities. A research data policy (FD policy) helps to secure the value of research data in the long term and to establish sustainable research data management (FDM) at the university. FDM and FD policy are interdependent: the FD policy raises awareness and draws researchers' attention to research data, but it can only be lived if the different roles in FDM are defined and FDM services are offered to researchers."
