Connotea Imports 2012-07-31

Summary:

From the abstract: Openly exchanged seismological data contribute to research and monitoring related to the CTBT [Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty] and complement the more formally structured and restricted data procedures of the International Monitoring System (IMS). In addition to providing an increasingly rich source of data for fundamental research programs and monitoring, the open exchange of data encourages international and multi-disciplinary collaboration and leads to improvements in data quality and network practices. The IRIS Consortium and its Members commit to its mission to “promote exchange of geophysical data and knowledge, through use of standards for network operations, data formats, and exchange protocols, and through pursuing policies of free and unrestricted data access”. Data collected through IRIS programs as supported by the US National Science Foundation are archived at the IRIS Data Management Center (DMC) from which they are freely and openly available to researchers and the public....
