Open Access publishing

This is an editorial by that will appear in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases, written by the journal's editor, E. Petersen. The article begins with this paragraph: "In this issue Dr Alfonso J. Rodríguez-Morales and colleagues express concern that the International Journal of Infectious Diseases (IJID) has changed to an Open Access publishing model, and raise the question of whether this is to the benefit of the authors. It is our firm belief that the Open Access model does benefit authors, and I will try to argue why."
