The institutional repository: Benefits and challenges

Summary:

"Despite the abundance of information on IRs, librarians consistently show an interest in learning more about their promises and pitfalls, and they seek practical advice on creating, maintaining, implementing, and marketing them. As a result, in the winter of 2009, the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) tapped into the enormous, ongoing interest in the IR concept and presented a symposium entitled “Implementing an Institutional Repository: Benefits and Challenges.” The success of that meeting and the enthusiastic response it generated led to the development of a series of webinars around the topic of institutional repositories and has culminated with the adaptation and expansion of some of the content of both the symposium and the webinars into this formal and more permanent format. "
