"The OA Data Practice project aims to advance the Open Access transformation in Germany by examining and supporting the use of publication and cost data.

The project team has now released information and learning materials on monitoring activities using open data sources. These materials are aligned with the “Competency Profiles for the Open Access Transformation” developed in the Transform2Open project (Shelly and Höhnow 2025) and are intended for individuals at academic institutions who are responsible for Open Access.

The new materials include interactive R notebooks that are published as self-learning resources on the project website. The notebooks demonstrate how open data sources can be used to analyse publication volumes and costs, and they provide interactive exercises to allow users to explore individual analytical steps independently. No prior knowledge or software installation is required. Before publication, the notebooks were tested by individuals with varying levels of experience. They can be found at:

The project has also produced an introduction to the topic of Open Access monitoring and open research information for people working in libraries. This introduction was published as part of the “LIBER Digital Scholarship & Data Science Topic Guides for Library Professionals” (Strecker and Dörner 2025)."
