Executive Office of the President

The Executive Office of the President has released a report examining the Economic Benefits of Fixing Our Broken Immigration System. The report details "the range of benefits to the U.S. economy that would be realized from passage of commonsense immigration reform, and the high costs of inaction."

"Last month, the Senate passed historic legislation that is largely consistent with the President's principles for commonsense immigration reform with a strong bipartisan vote. The Senate's Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act (S. 744) represents the best chance that our country has had in years to modernize our immigration system. The President urges the House of Representatives to take action and move this bill or similar legislation forward, and stands willing to work with all parties to make sure that commonsense immigration reform becomes a reality as soon as possible."

The document assesses that the Senate's immigration reform bill would:

1. Strengthen the overall economy and increase U.S. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) 2. Foster innovation and encourage job creation and job growth across the nation 3. Increase the productivity of workers and add new protections for U.S. workers 4. Decrease budget deficits, balance out an aging population, and strengthen Social Security
