Summary:
2013 Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) Annual Meeting Building Resilient Communities through Policy and Mitigation February 12-15, 2013 Seattle, WA
"The 2013 EERI Annual Meeting will be held February 12-15 at the Grand Hyatt in Seattle, Washington, with the theme of 'Building Resilient Communities through Policy and Mitigation'.
The annual meeting program has been designed to highlight earthquake policy issues while also learning from researchers and practitioners from around the country. The theme suggests two approaches for increasing community resilience: policy and mitigation. Policies can be effective at providing the impetus for change while mitigation represents the means for reducing earthquake risks in our built environment. The meeting will explore the role of policy and mitigation as it relates to vulnerable construction typologies, school buildings, tsunami-resistant structures, and ground failures while also discussing loss and recovery modeling advances to quantify the benefits of mitigation. The program will also include sessions on innovations in earthquake engineering such as technology for post-earthquake assessments and the broadening the link between performance-based seismic design and sustainability."
