Makerbot Scanner Announced

As long as we're talking about the ease of home reproduction of physical objects, Makerbot would like us to know that they'll be offering a Digitizer in October for USD 1400. The target audience is people who want to do 3D printing without having to learn modeling languages - the device can even post your scans to Thingverse for you. This is clearly early adopter technology and the company is working to keep peoples' expectations in line with reality. Like many first-adopter products, it will have problems and be succeeded by improved models in short order. But if you thought rip, mix, print was still in the future, welcome to the future.
