When an Artist "Makes It"

Following in the vein of Molly Crabapple's commentary, John Scalzi blogged this week about knowing he had made it when he didn't have to count the cost of simple things like a tank of gas. I continue to believe fervently that our world is a better place when people can afford to devote themselves to the creative endeavors that move them. If you find you have the means to support an artist, go out and buy some of their stuff. Messages of appreciation are great, but nothing says "yes we love what you do" like a sold-out sign.
