Columbia College Chicago names Herbie Hancock '60 as 2013 Honorary Degree Recipient

In keeping with its motto of "Creating Change," Columbia College Chicago will honor eight leaders in the entertainment, media and arts fields with honorary degrees during its spring commencement ceremonies on May 18 and 19 in the Chicago Theatre. Each of these individuals has used their talents and abilities to create an impact on the culture around them and can serve as inspirations for the more than 2,500 students graduating over the course of the weekend.

The college will present honorary degrees to author Jane Hamilton, musician Herbie Hancock, choreographer Lorenzo Rennie Harris, philosopher Martha Nussbaum, hospitality industry entrepreneur Joe Shanahan, artist Jessica Stockholder, writer/producer Robert Teitel and writer/producer/director George Tillman, Jr.
